Tax-class context for commerce

VAT tax classes

Official rate sources are not designed around every merchant catalogue. VAT Engine provides stable, readable tax classes to make rate selection explicit in application code.

What this helps you do

Make product-tax assumptions visible, reviewable, and consistent across calculation and reporting workflows.

  • Curated classes derived from official rate categories.
  • Searchable public tax-class catalogue.
  • Country-scoped preview information where available.
  • Class assignment remains a business decision that VAT Engine does not make for you.

How to use it well

Map the catalogue deliberately

Review products against the class definitions you use, then record the mapping in your commerce or source-profile workflow.

Do not equate a label with legal advice

A class makes an assumption visible; it does not establish that a product qualifies for a reduced rate or exemption.

Review changes over time

Revisit mappings when the product changes, a country is added, or the underlying rate and category context changes.
